GATECRASHER! TALKS is a presentation by Ms. Grageda-Smith focused on the needs of beginner writers and otherwise talented and experienced writers who are struggling to access the competitive U.S. literary publishing market. This talk is most beneficial to writers who dream of writing books and breaking out in the U.S. publishing market but don’t have an M.F.A. in Creative Writing degree.
GATECRASHER! TALKS was inspired by the title of Ms. Grageda-Smith’s essay, “Gatekeepers and Gatecrashers in Contemporary American Poetry: Reflections of a Filipino Immigrant Poet in the United States,” that appears in Black Lawrence Press’ 2015 anthology, OTHERS WILL ENTER THE GATES: Immigrant Poets on Poetry, Influences, and Writing in America. In this talk, Ms. Grageda-Smith will expound on the skills and techniques she developed and used to break out–indeed, GATECRASH!–into the ultra-competitive US literary publishing world and enabled her to achieve literary awards in multiple writing genres, publishing contracts, and features in author events sponsored by major libraries and civic organizations.
